Reward Sites for Teens: Age Requirements and What Under-18s Can Use
October 4, 2026
Reward sites and gamers both skew young, so one question comes up constantly: how old do you have to be? The answer depends on the site, and getting it wrong is costly. A site that finds out you were under its minimum age can close your account and cancel everything you earned.
Here are the real rules, and what to do if you are under 18.
Minimum ages on popular sites
| Site | Minimum age | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Swagbucks | 13 | Encourages under-18s to get a parent's permission |
| Freecash | 16 | |
| XPReward | 16 | One account per person |
| InboxDollars | 18 | US residents only |
| KashKick | 18 | US residents only |
Rules change, and some sites set different minimums by country, so check the site's own terms before you sign up. The age in the terms is what applies, not what a review site says.
Individual surveys and offers often have their own minimums on top of the site's. Many survey panels only accept adults, and some offers (financial products, certain apps) are always 18+. At 16 or 17 you will see fewer surveys than an adult. That is expected, and it doesn't mean your account has a problem. Why surveys disqualify you explains how the screening works.
Never lie about your age
It is tempting to type an older birth year. Don't. Here is what happens:
- You earn for weeks.
- You try to cash out, and the site asks for identity verification, which is common for larger or first withdrawals.
- Your ID shows your real age.
- The account is closed and the balance is forfeited, because the terms you agreed to say you were old enough.
Lying about your age is also the most common way people end up with mismatched details across survey panels, which is itself a fraud signal. See banned from an offerwall for how that plays out.
Being honest about your age also keeps your survey profile consistent, so you get fewer disqualifications.
Why cash sites are harder for teens
Many sites pay out through PayPal, and PayPal requires account holders to be adults, which is 18 in most countries. So even on a site that accepts 16-year-olds, the PayPal option may not actually be usable.
That is a real advantage of gift card payouts. A Steam, PSN or Xbox code is just a code. No bank or PayPal account is needed to receive it, and you redeem it into a gaming account you already have. XPReward pays only in gift cards and game keys for that reason, among others.
Gift cards on a teen's gaming account
Each platform handles younger players differently, so check this before you earn a card:
- Steam requires users to be at least 13. Codes redeem straight into your own Steam Wallet. Steam Families lets a parent manage spending and purchases.
- PlayStation: accounts for under-18s are child accounts in a family group. They do not have their own wallet. They spend from the family manager's wallet, up to a monthly limit that starts at zero. So a PSN card for a child account is usually redeemed by the parent, who then sets a spending limit.
- Xbox / Microsoft: child accounts in a Microsoft family can have their own balance, and parents control spending and purchase approval through Microsoft Family Safety.
If you are under 18, the smoothest approach is to tell a parent which card you are working toward before you claim it, so it can be redeemed into the right account.
Staying safe as a younger user
Teens are a favourite target for scams that look like rewards. The basics:
- No legitimate site ever needs your Steam, PSN, Xbox or Roblox password.
- "Free Robux", "free V-Bucks" and code generators are always scams. No exceptions.
- Never pay money to unlock a reward.
- Keep your personal details to what the site needs. Do not share your school, address or phone number in community posts.
Our rewards site scams guide has the full checklist, and it is worth showing to a parent too.
For parents
If your teen wants to use a reward site, the questions worth asking are:
- What is the site's minimum age, and does your teen meet it honestly?
- How does it pay? Gift cards to a gaming account you manage are simpler and safer than cash transfers.
- What does it ask for? Offers that require installing apps or signing up for trials deserve a look together.
- Is there a community or chat? If so, the usual online-safety rules apply.
Also set expectations about earnings. Reward sites pay small amounts for real time. Our honest earnings breakdown shows realistic numbers.
FAQ
I'm 15. Can I use XPReward?
No. XPReward's minimum age is 16. Please wait until you meet it rather than entering an older birth year. Everything you earned would be at risk.
I'm 16. Can I cash out to PayPal?
Probably not, because PayPal requires adult account holders. Gift card payouts avoid that problem.
Can my parent make the account for me?
Not if the account is really for you. Accounts are personal, and most sites allow one per person. A parent's account must be used by the parent.
Will I get fewer surveys at 16 or 17?
Yes. Many survey panels are adults-only. Offers and other earning methods are less affected.
