XPReward vs Microsoft Rewards: Which Gets You Xbox Gift Cards Faster in 2026?
October 5, 2026
If you want free Xbox gift cards, Microsoft Rewards is the obvious place to start. It is run by Microsoft, it pays in Xbox credit and it takes a few minutes a day. XPReward is a much smaller, independent site that also pays in Xbox cards, along with Steam and PSN. Here is an honest comparison, including where Microsoft wins.
What each one is
Microsoft Rewards is Microsoft's loyalty programme. You earn points for searching with Bing, completing daily quizzes and activities, playing on Xbox (through the Rewards app on console and Game Pass quests), and buying from the Microsoft Store. You spend the points on Xbox and Microsoft gift cards, other retailers' cards, sweepstakes entries or donations.
XPReward is a gaming rewards site. You earn by completing sponsored offers and surveys from four offerwall partners (CPX Research, AdGate, Lootably and Torox), through referrals, and by contributing to the Gaming Hub. Points redeem for Steam, PSN and Xbox gift cards and game keys.
The 2026 changes to Microsoft Rewards
Microsoft Rewards became noticeably less generous in 2026, and it matters for this comparison:
- Xbox gift cards cost more points. In February 2026 Microsoft raised the price. In the US, a $10 Xbox gift card now costs about 10,000 points (it was about 9,500 with the old level discount). Similar rises were reported in the UK, Canada and Germany.
- Lower daily caps. A new Member/Silver/Gold tier system has been rolling out by country since spring 2026, with lower daily point caps than the old system, especially for search. Reports of the exact numbers vary between countries and accounts, but the overall direction is clear: fewer points per day for most people.
Before the changes, a dedicated user could get a $10 card a month from searches and daily sets alone. For most people it now takes longer.
Side by side
| Microsoft Rewards | XPReward | |
|---|---|---|
| Run by | Microsoft | Independent |
| Main way to earn | Bing searches, daily set, Xbox activity | Offers, surveys, referrals, Gaming Hub |
| Time per day | 5–15 minutes, capped | Uncapped, depends on available offers |
| Smallest Xbox card | Usually $5–$10, varies by region | $25 |
| Points per $1 of Xbox credit | ~1,000 (US, $10 card) | 144 |
| Steam / PSN cards | Not usually offered | Yes |
| Cash out | No (some regions offer PayPal donations or other cards) | No |
| Account risk | Points can be removed for "unusual activity" | Offers can be reversed by the provider |
The points-per-dollar row is not a like-for-like comparison. A Microsoft point is worth far less than an XPReward point, and each one is far easier to earn. What matters is time per dollar, and that depends on what you are willing to do.
Where Microsoft Rewards wins
- Smaller first reward. You can redeem something within your first week or two. XPReward's floor is a $25 card at 3,600 points, which takes much longer to reach.
- Zero effort if you already use Bing or Xbox. Points from things you do anyway are free money.
- Microsoft runs it. You cannot be paid more reliably for Xbox credit than by the company that issues it.
- Safe, low-stakes activities. Searches and quizzes, with no app installs or surveys.
Where XPReward wins
- No daily cap. When good offers are available, you can earn a whole card's worth in one session. On Microsoft Rewards, the cap decides your pace.
- Steam and PSN, not just Xbox. If you play on more than one platform, Microsoft Rewards' gift card catalogue is mostly Microsoft's own.
- Individual offers pay more. One game offer can be worth more than a month of Bing searches. The trade-off is that offers take real time and can take a while to credit.
The honest downside of XPReward
Offerwall earnings are uneven. Surveys disqualify you often, offer supply depends on your country, and a $25 floor means you need to stick with it. If you will not put in a few focused sessions, Microsoft Rewards will get you further.
Use both
These two do not compete for the same time. Microsoft Rewards rewards small daily habits. XPReward rewards occasional focused sessions. Many Xbox players do the Microsoft daily set every day and use offerwalls when they have an hour free. Both end up as Microsoft account balance, so they stack in the same wallet. Our Game Pass with gift cards guide explains how to put that balance towards a subscription.
Which one should you pick?
- You only play on Xbox and want little effort: Microsoft Rewards.
- You play on Steam or PlayStation too: XPReward, because Microsoft cannot pay you in those.
- You want the most Xbox credit per month and will put in time: both.
- You want to try a site with a tiny first payout: Microsoft Rewards. XPReward's first reward takes commitment, and we would rather say so now.
Create an XPReward account if the Steam/PSN side or uncapped earning is what you are after.
FAQ
Can I get banned from Microsoft Rewards?
Yes. Bots, search scripts, VPNs and multiple accounts per household are the usual reasons Microsoft suspends accounts and removes points.
Is Microsoft Rewards available everywhere?
No. It is available in a list of supported countries, and the catalogue and point prices vary between them.
Do XPReward Xbox cards work with Microsoft Rewards balances?
Yes. Both add to the same Microsoft account balance once redeemed, as long as the card region matches the account.
