Sony is bringing back its State of Play showcase today, September 3, with a double-feature presentation that could deliver major updates for PlayStation fans worldwide.
PlayStation fans have plenty to look forward to today as Sony prepares to host its latest State of Play presentation, followed immediately by a special State of Play Japan showcase.
The first presentation is scheduled for September 3 at 6:00 a.m. PT / 9:00 a.m. ET / 2:00 p.m. GMT, with the broadcast available through PlayStation's official YouTube and Twitch channels. For viewers in India, the showcase begins at approximately 6:30 p.m. IST.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation Takes Center Stage
The biggest confirmed attraction is Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the upcoming conclusion to Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII remake project.
Sony has confirmed that today's State of Play will conclude with an extended look at the game's world, giving fans a deeper glimpse at what Square Enix is preparing for the highly anticipated finale.
The game promises to dramatically expand the scale of the remake project, with Cloud and his companions facing the final confrontation with Sephiroth. The previously revealed trailer showcased a much larger world, aerial exploration, large-scale battles and a fully assembled party.
The game is currently scheduled for Spring 2027, although Sony has not indicated that today's presentation will necessarily reveal a more specific release date.
More Games Could Be Revealed
While Final Fantasy VII Revelation is the only game specifically confirmed by Sony, the first State of Play is expected to feature updates and announcements from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners.
Sony has deliberately kept the rest of the lineup under wraps, meaning surprise announcements could become one of the biggest talking points once the broadcast begins.
That has naturally led to speculation among PlayStation fans about which upcoming games could make an appearance. However, titles circulating through rumors should not be treated as confirmed until Sony officially announces them.
State of Play Japan Follows Immediately
The excitement won't end when the main presentation concludes.
Sony will immediately follow the global State of Play with State of Play Japan, a dedicated presentation focused on upcoming games from developers and publishers across Japan and Asia.
The Japan-focused broadcast will include new gameplay, announcements and deeper looks at upcoming projects. It will be presented in Japanese with English subtitles.
This gives PlayStation fans two showcases in a single day, with the first focused on the wider PlayStation ecosystem and the second concentrating on games coming from the Japanese and Asian development scene.
