The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered Arrives September 29 With Major Visual and Gameplay Upgrades

CD PROJEKT RED is bringing Geralt of Rivia’s legendary adventure back with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, launching September 29, 2026.

One of the most acclaimed RPGs of the past decade is getting another major upgrade. CD PROJEKT RED has officially announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, with the new version scheduled to launch on September 29, 2026.

The remastered edition is designed to modernize Geralt's massive open-world adventure with improvements across visuals, performance, gameplay, combat, exploration, and more. The upgrade will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Battle.net.

A Free Upgrade for Existing Players

Perhaps the biggest surprise is that existing owners won't have to purchase the game again on qualifying platforms.

Players who already own The Witcher 3 on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S will receive the Remastered version as a free upgrade.

Nintendo Switch players will also be able to claim the Remastered edition on Nintendo Switch 2 when it becomes available.

CD PROJEKT RED is also making the game's two acclaimed expansions more accessible. Existing owners of the base game will gain access to Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine at no additional cost, and both expansions will be included with the Remastered edition.

Major Visual and Gameplay Improvements

The Witcher 3 Remastered isn't simply a resolution or texture upgrade.

Nintendo Switch 2 Gets a Native Version

The Witcher 3 is also expanding its reach to Nintendo's latest hardware.

For the first time, Nintendo Switch 2 will receive a native version of The Witcher 3 Remastered. This should give players on Nintendo's newer hardware a version specifically optimized for the system rather than simply relying on the original Switch release.

The game will also arrive on Battle.net, marking another new platform for the legendary RPG.

A New Witcher Expansion Is Coming in 2027

The Remastered release is only part of CD PROJEKT RED's plans for The Witcher 3.

The studio is also developing a brand-new paid expansion called The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past, scheduled for release in 2027.

The expansion will take Geralt to Letten, a new region that initially appears to be a peaceful land filled with rural traditions and folklore. Beneath that idyllic surface, however, lies a much darker secret.

Geralt will encounter new enemies, reunite with familiar characters, and gain new abilities alongside a new weapon: the chain.

The Witcher 3 Is Still Going Strong

Originally released in 2015, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has remained one of the industry's most successful RPGs.

CD PROJEKT RED says the game has now sold more than 65 million copies worldwide and has received more than 250 Game of the Year awards.

The upcoming Remastered edition gives both longtime fans and newcomers another reason to return to the Continent before the franchise moves toward its next major chapter.

With The Witcher 3 Remastered arriving September 29, 2026, Songs of the Past following in 2027, and The Witcher 4 currently targeting 2028, the next few years could be a major period for fans of CD PROJEKT RED's fantasy RPG series.
